Shanti Sadan is a centre of the Yoga of Self-Knowledge, Adhyatma Yoga, and the philosophy of non-duality, Advaita Vedanta.

Advaita Vedanta teaches that the true Self of each individual is not in essence different from the non-dual reality underlying all. Adhyatma Yoga provides practices through which this identity may be approached.

Direct realization of this identity is the highest goal of life, and brings the cessation of limitations and suffering.

The practices include ethical living, devotion to truth, study, service and meditation.

Now Available as eBook: Training the Mind through Yoga

Cover of eBook Training the Mind through Yoga

When we take up the traditional practices that can lead to Self-knowledge, we discover new qualities in our own inner world; some positive and helpful on the path, others distracting and challenging. How we respond to these discoveries is central to our progress.

Marjorie Waterhouse, who succeeded Hari Prasad Shastri as Warden of Shanti Sadan, writes with special insight into this essential aspect of Yoga.

Training the Mind through Yoga, the first book published by her, is now available as an eBook. See the on-line bookstore.

New Publication: Living Beyond Fear

Cover of Book Beyond Fear

Our own true Self is universal, and the true Self is always immediately present in our experience, yet not fully revealed until we make the inner search guided by traditional teachings. To know our own higher nature in direct experience is to find lasting happiness and fulfil the highest potential of life.

This new collection of writings by the Warden of Shanti Sadan shows how this realization may be sought by giving the search for reality first place in our lives and affirming these truths in our thoughts and actions. Available from the on-line bookstore.

The teaching suggests such a happiness is possible. ‘For a long while you have not seen perfect happiness. Experience now this highest state of beatitude in front of you’, that is, close at hand..."

From Self-Knowledge Journal: The Bhagavad Gita - from Grief to Peace

"The first stirrings of spiritual longings in us may take the form of a feeling that we should withdraw from all this... The life of spiritual enquiry is in fact an entirely positive enterprise, in pursuit of a vision in which everything is seen in its true perspective, and a fulfilment which is independent of circumstances..."
